The system changes, the file name changes, but in the end it is always someone opening a screen, reading and typing what already exists somewhere else. What is below already runs. It is an example of the work, not the size of what can be done.

The ERP, the finance tool, the spreadsheet nobody will give up. Each one works. Between them there is a person moving data by hand, every week, the same way.
And data typed by hand gets things wrong. So someone checks it. And the checking becomes manual work too.
What you enter in one system shows up in the other, with nobody in between. If one of them is one of those locked systems, I find another way in.
Reconciliation, crunching, reports, alerts. What depends on someone remembering starts happening on schedule, every day.
Invoice, bill, receipt, spreadsheet that lands in the inbox. It comes in, it is read, it becomes a record in the system.
You do not need to know how it is done. That is my problem.
There is almost always a way. I have pulled data out of old systems and out of systems that looked locked.
That is where it hurts. Whoever runs admin or operations spends half the day typing from one system into another, and that time never shows up in any report. You do not need to be a big company to pay that bill, you just need one person stuck in a task that repeats.
Almost always the attempt was too big. Automating a whole process at once stalls, because every exception becomes a new problem and the project never goes live. It works better to take the small piece that repeats the most, get it running this week, and grow from there. The other common reason is automating the task and forgetting the channel: if people keep messaging a person, the work comes back.
The one you have already thought “a computer should be doing this by itself”. That is where we start.
You explain how it works today and you leave knowing whether it can be automated, even if the answer is no.
